Romanian Council for Green Buildings

We are a non-profit, apolitical association, made up of organizations active throughout the country. We promote environmental responsibility and energy efficiency during the life cycle of a building (from the design, construction to operation and deconstruction phase).

BACKGROUND

The founding companies created the Romanian Council for Green Buildings as a result of recognizing the following trends :

  • Better technologies and design and a new way of financing energy efficiency;

  • The growing exposure of green buildings in the business environment, which proves that green architecture means smart business and practices;

  • The interest of visionary companies for the development of skills to excel in construction and related industries and to generate sustained profits;

  • Forecasted economic growth at local and global level involving certain constraints in the use of resources and increasing operational and construction costs;

  • Concern for environmental issues and political and social desire to mitigate these issues;

  • The need to intensify collaborative relations between industry, government and civil society in order to remove barriers and align the interests of all parties involved, in order to ensure the rapid and comprehensive adoption of sustainable construction principles;

  • The significant contribution that healthy, affordable and energy efficient housing has on the wealth and security of the nation;

  • Increasing productivity, innovations and other financial benefits resulting from the sustainable design of office buildings and industrial spaces;

  • The attractiveness of environmentally friendly design in shopping malls, both for buyers and owners.

Our Objectives

To promote market transformation and facilitate the implementation of the next generation of high-performing green constructions the Romania Green Building Council :

  • Facilitates the availability of the most up to date and highest quality training to create the necessary pool of national green building experts;

  • Supports the development of appropriate regulatory conditions that promote sustainable constructions while ensuring attractive returns on investment;

  • Develops and implements a national green building standards and certification system;

  • Supports the development of best in class in-country green construction and in an effort to position Romania as a sustainable construction leader in the region;

  • Builds an inclusive organization by facilitating the collaboration between all relevant players in order to eliminate systemic barriers and promote a truly sustainable built environment;

  • Promotes domestic, regional and international collaboration to share knowledge and encourage innovation;

  • Researches, compiles and disseminates best practices for the region and encourages their adoption and implementation.
